Sermon clips AI for small churches: clips, quotes and notes
A 30 to 60 second clip can carry Sunday's message to people who'd never watch the full sermon. Here's how AI can help small churches make good ones, plus the quotes, captions and notes that go with them.

What sermon clips AI actually does
"Sermon clips AI" tools listen to your sermon recording, find short moments that stand on their own, cut them to a vertical format and add captions. Done well, this saves a volunteer hours of scrubbing through a recording. Done badly, it produces clips that cut a sentence out of context.
So whichever tool you use, the most important rule is the same: cutting the clip must not change the pastor's meaning. Someone scrolling past should understand the moment without the rest of the sermon, and the pastor should be glad it was shared.
What Amenflow makes from every sermon
We want to be precise here, because "AI clips" can mean a lot of things.
When you upload audio or video, Amenflow makes branded 1080p clips (up to 3 on Starter and the trial, 5 on Standard, 8 on Pro), every clip in three sizes: - Vertical 9:16 (1080x1920) for Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Stories, feed 4:5 (1080x1350) for Instagram and Facebook posts, and landscape 16:9 (1920x1080) for YouTube and your website. - Captions burned in, plus a separate SRT caption file for each clip. - Video sermons are center-cropped to vertical. Audio-only sermons become an audiogram: a branded background with the sermon title, a waveform and large captions. - Clips are usually around 20 to 55 seconds, built from the sermon's strongest word-for-word quotes. - Each clip comes with a short hook title and a social caption you can edit.
What Amenflow doesn't do: it isn't a video editor. You can't drag a timeline, pick your own start and end points, change the crop or restyle the captions inside Amenflow, and it doesn't post clips for you. If you upload only a manuscript (no recording), you get the written content but no video clips. If you want unlimited clips or full editing control, a dedicated video editor is the better tool, and you can still use Amenflow's quotes and timestamps to find your moments faster.
Written clips: quotes, captions and notes
Video is only one way to share a moment. Every Amenflow pack also includes the "written clips" that most small churches actually use every week: - Timestamped key quotes, word for word from the recording, for quote graphics. - Five social captions in different styles: quote-led, a question, an invitation and more. - A summary and full transcript, useful for sermon notes and accessibility. - A small group guide, a 5-day devotional and a kids' lesson from the same passage. - Spanish versions of the summary, newsletter, small group guide and captions.

Is there a free sermon clips AI?
Some tools offer free tiers, often with watermarks or limits. You can also make clips for free by hand: listen back, note two or three moments, trim them in a free editor, add auto-captions and export vertical video. Our guide to making sermon clips with free methods walks through it step by step.
Amenflow lets you try 3 sermons free with every feature, including clips, and no credit card. After that, plans are $38, $58 or $128 a month. See pricing.
How to make a good sermon clip (with or without AI)
- Pick one complete thought. A single truth, a short story, a question to the room, or a clear explanation of a verse.
- Keep it 20 to 60 seconds. Long enough to land, short enough to finish.
- Go vertical (9:16). Keep the speaker centered.
- Always caption. Most people scroll with the sound off. Check names and Scripture references.
- Add a hook. A short line of on-screen text in the first second tells people why to keep watching.
- Write a caption that invites. The sermon title, the passage, and a link to the full message.
- Post on a rhythm. One or two clips a week, every week, beats ten at once.
Audio-only church? An audiogram with big captions is a perfectly good clip. A phone on a tripod or your livestream recording is enough video. For more ideas, see church reel ideas.
AI for church sermons: what it should and shouldn't do
AI is helpful after the sermon: finding quotable moments, drafting captions, summarizing, translating. It shouldn't replace the study, prayer and pastoral care that go into preaching. Amenflow never writes sermons. It only works from a message you've already preached or written. Our guide to AI tools for pastors covers using AI wisely, and the Pulpit AI alternative page compares options honestly.
A simple sermon notes template
Many churches share sermon notes alongside clips so people can follow along or catch up. A layout that works:
[Sermon title] · [Series] · [Date]
Main passage: [Reference]
Big idea: [One sentence]
1. [First point] · Key verse: [reference]
2. [Second point] · Key verse: [reference]
3. [Third point] · Key verse: [reference]
One thing to do this week: [one practical step]
Question to discuss: [one question]
Amenflow's summary, outline and Scripture list give you everything to fill this in. For printable versions (fill-in-the-blank, kids and teens), see our sermon notes templates.
Permissions and good practice
- Make sure you have the right to post any music in a clip; worship songs often need a separate license.
- Get permission before featuring people in the congregation, especially children.
- Let your pastor see clips before they go out, at least until you've built trust.

Frequently asked questions
Does Amenflow make video sermon clips?
Yes. When you upload audio or video, Amenflow makes branded 1080p MP4 clips per sermon (up to 3 on Starter and the trial, 5 on Standard, 8 on Pro), each in vertical 9:16, feed 4:5 and landscape 16:9 sizes, with burned-in captions in your church's colours and an SRT file for each. Audio-only sermons become audiogram clips. Manuscript-only uploads get written content but no video clips.
Can I choose which moments become clips?
Not inside Amenflow. It picks the moments from the sermon's strongest word-for-word quotes, and you can edit each clip's title and caption. For custom moments, use the timestamped quotes to find them in any video editor.
