Sermon Captions for Social Media: 40 Fill-in-the-Blank Templates
The sermon is already the best content your church makes each week. The hard part is the caption: what to write under the clip, the quote graphic or the photo so it sounds like your church and invites people in.
These 40 sermon caption templates are grouped by the kind of post you're making. Fill in the brackets from Sunday's message. For a weekly plan of which post goes on which day, see the church social media content calendar.
Before you start: a simple caption formula
Most good sermon captions have three parts:
- A hook in the first line. This is often all people see before "more." Lead with the quote, the question or the struggle.
- Context. Who preached it, what passage, which series.
- One invitation. Watch the full message, answer a question, or come Sunday. Just one.
Keep the preacher's words exact when you put them in quotation marks.

Hashtags, accessibility and consent
- Hashtags: a few relevant ones (your church name, the series name, the book of the Bible) are plenty. They help people already following your church find series content; they are rarely how new people find you.
- Captions on video: burn captions into every clip. Many people scroll with the sound off, and captions make clips accessible to people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Alt text on images: when you post a quote graphic, add alt text that includes the quote itself, so screen-reader users get the same message.
- Consent: get permission before posting photos of people, and be especially careful with children. Don't share stories told in confidence.
- Music: background worship music in clips can trigger copyright claims. Use the spoken sermon or licensed music.
