Church Social Media Content Calendar: A Free Weekly Template
Most church social media accounts don't struggle because of bad ideas. They struggle because there's no rhythm. Posts happen when someone remembers, and then the account goes quiet for two weeks.
A content calendar fixes that. Below is a weekly template built around the one thing your church produces every week, Sunday's sermon, plus a monthly routine that takes about an hour.
The idea: one message, seven days
Instead of inventing new content every day, let each day serve a different purpose for the same message:
| Day | Purpose | Example post |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Invite + live | "Join us at 9 & 11. We're in John 10 this week." Story: worship photo (with consent). |
| Monday | Recap | A key quote from the sermon, set as text on a simple background. |
| Tuesday | Reflect | One discussion question from the small group guide. |
| Wednesday | Watch | A 30–60 second captioned clip of the sermon's strongest moment. |
| Thursday | Live it | A practical application: "One way to put this into practice this week…" |
| Friday | People | A volunteer spotlight, a ministry update, or a story (with permission). |
| Saturday | Prepare | "Tomorrow we continue in John 10. Read ahead: vv. 11–18." |

The monthly planning routine (about an hour)
- List the next four Sundays: texts, titles and speakers. If you plan series ahead, this takes minutes. See sermon series ideas.
- Mark the special dates: baptisms, serve days, holidays, Advent. Our Advent ideas for 2026 start November 29.
- Fill in Saturday and Sunday posts for each week, since they don't depend on the sermon itself.
- Leave Monday to Thursday open until the sermon is preached. Those posts come from the message.
- Assign owners, even if the owner is always you.
After Sunday: a 30-minute routine
- Listen back or skim the transcript, and pick the strongest 30–60 seconds for Wednesday's clip. See how to make sermon clips for free.
- Pull one quote for Monday. Quote it word for word.
- Take one question from the small group guide for Tuesday.
- Write Thursday's application in two sentences.
- Schedule everything.
Tips for small teams
- Consistency beats volume. Three good posts a week, every week, beats seven posts for one week and then silence.
- Caption every video. Many people watch with the sound off.
- Get permission before posting photos of identifiable people, and always before posting children.
- Reuse your newsletter. The recap you write for email can become Monday's caption. Here are newsletter ideas.
- Batch your graphics. One simple template, in your church's colors, used every week.
- Try short video. Reel ideas anyone can film can fill Fridays.
Fill the calendar from the sermon automatically
Amenflow takes Sunday's sermon and drafts the posts that fill Monday through Thursday: five social captions in different styles (quote, question, invite, Scripture, midweek), key quotes checked word for word against the recording, and three captioned 9:16 clips. You review everything and post with your own tools. See a real sample or start free.
